FAQs

Quicklime consists mainly of calcium oxide (CaO) and reacts exothermically with water. Hydrated lime consists mainly of calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)₂] and has already undergone the hydration process.

Sadaf Hydrated Lime is produced through the controlled hydration of quicklime and consists primarily of calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)₂. Depending on the selected grade and confirmed specifications, this fine alkaline powder may be used in mortars and renders, soil improvement and stabilisation, treatment processes and selected industrial applications.

  • Improving workability and water retention in properly designed masonry mortars
  • Traditional and factory-made renders and construction compounds with approved formulations
  •  Improvement or stabilisation of selected soils following geotechnical testing
  • pH adjustment and neutralisation in industrial and treatment processes, using a suitable grade
  • Mineral and chemical processes where product purity and reactivity have been matched to the application

Application Guidelines

  1. Identify the intended application and required grade, and check the quality of the water and other materials.
  2. To prepare a slurry, fill a suitable mixing tank with water and add the powder gradually while controlling dust.
  3. Determine concentration, mixing time and dosage through process testing or an approved mix design.
  4. For construction mortars, batch the lime by weight and use it with suitable cement and aggregates in accordance with the mix design.
  5. Inspect and clean equipment, transfer lines and potential deposit points regularly in slurry applications.

Limitations and Non-Recommended Uses

  • For food, pharmaceutical or drinking-water applications, use only a specifically certified and approved grade. General industrial grades are not suitable for these uses.
  • Do not determine treatment or soil-stabilisation dosage without appropriate testing.
  • Do not bring into contact with acids or incompatible substances except in a professionally engineered and controlled process.
  • Long exposure to moisture or air may reduce product quality and reactivity.

Packaging, Storage and Handling

  • Keep in sealed, dry, moisture-resistant packaging.
  • Store away from water, acids and incompatible materials.
  • Pneumatic transfer or bulk unloading must include suitable dust-control measures.
  • Available in bags, bulk bags or bulk delivery, depending on the grade and order requirements.

Safety

Hydrated lime is highly alkaline and may cause severe irritation or injury, particularly to the eyes. Effective dust control, sealed safety goggles, gloves, protective clothing and suitable respiratory protection are required. In the event of eye contact, rinse immediately and continuously with clean water and seek medical attention. Refer to the product SDS for definitive safety instructions.
